While there have been no formal studies on the actual protection of the scalp by hair, it stands to reason that if you have hair on your head, there is less chance for UV rays to penetrate to the scalp. In 2006, there was study done to check out the incidence of skin cancer in people in Australia where natural UV radiation is very strong. It was found that those people with thicker hair had less incidences of skin cancers on their ears when they were covered or protected with hair.
While no studies have been conducted on the penetration of laser energy through the hair, it stands to reason that hair is probably a barrier to optimal penetration of laser light onto the scalp, too. There are many laser phototherapy devices on the market that claim to regrow hair, but almost all of them apply the laser energy to the scalp OVER the hair. You can imagine that a lot of that laser energy is therefore blocked from reaching the scalp by hair.
The HairMax LaserComb is the only laser phototherapy device on the market that utilizes a patented hair parting teeth mechanism built into the device that part the hair while delivering the laser energy to the scalp. That may be the reason why the HairMax is the only device of its kind to have clinical trial results that showed significant hair growth. The teeth parting mechanism of the HairMax may be helping to better deliver the nourishing energy of the lasers than other devices do because they do not automatically part the hair.
So once again, we suggest that you take the time to research all the other products on the market that claim hair growth in individuals with hereditary hair loss. Do they have published proof of efficacy, FDA Clearance, and a patented hair parting mechanism like the HairMax? You will find that none of the other devices on the market have all of these features except the HairMax LaserComb.
So, while we all like a good head of hair to look our best, regrowing your hair will offer more protection from the sun. The unique design of the HairMax LaserComb certainly offers the best chance to get your hair back.
